President Donald Trump has created an exemption in his tariff policy for luxury Qatari jet planes. The Trump administration had previously placed a 10% “reciprocal” tariff on Qatar as part of it’s universal 10% baseline tariff on all countries.
The exemption comes following reports that the trump administration is preparing to accept a luxury Boeing-747 from the Qatari royal family. Even though the 400 million dollar plane would be classified as a gift, it would still be subject to a 40 million dollar tariff to be paid by the importer, Donald Trump.
When questioned by reporters on whether the recent exemption had anything to do with him accepting the 400 million dollar gift, Trump had this to say:
“What do you think, dipshit?”
He was also asked if broader tariff reversals could be on the horizon.
“I don’t know. Alls I know is I ain’t paying 40 million fucking dollars for a gift plane,” Trump said.
However, Congressional Democrats are critical of Trump’s acceptance of the 400 million dollar gift, calling it “a shameless act of bribery.”
Attorney General Pam Bondi has a different view of the matter. Bondi and her team of White House lawyers have published a public statement declaring the legality of the act. In the statement, Bondi concludes that “bribery does not violate any laws against bribery or the Constitution’s prohibition of accepting gifts.”
Democrats aren’t the only ones taking issue with the removal. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas believes the specificity of the exemption creates a unfair advantage for Qatari officials to conduct bribery.
“I call on President Trump to remove tariffs on luxury jet planes across the board. Other nations must be given a fair chance to bribe U.S. officials and exert their influence. Competition is embedded within the American spirit, and the means by which the United States remains a global superpower. We must encourage competition amongst other countries attempting to bribe congressmen and judges to ensure we, the American government, obtain the best value bribes avaliable.”
Yesterday, Trump toured the Qatari plane and was taken by the luxurious interior. “It’s actually so fucking cool inside, you guys have got to see,” Trump said. “There’s a movie theater section and a XL bidet made specifically for my ass. If you don’t let me take this plane, I’ll fucking kill someone,” he told reporters.
Senator Chuck Schumer says while he condemns the gift, and under any other circumstances would bring up a president on impeachment for accepting a 400 million dollar gift, that the plane is “really fucking cool” and" “you can’t tell someone not to take a free 400 million plane, that’s communism.”
Schumer later reiterated, alongside House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries, the Democratic party’s commitement to “stand by as Trump breaks every possible law known to man.”
